Meet your new therapist
Jennifer Brink, MA, LLP, CCTP-II is the face behind Lucas Insight Counseling Services, LLC. She founded the company in January 2023 after encouragement from co-workers and colleagues to branch out and connect with a more diverse client population. The pathway to private practice has led to additional training and certifications, though ultimately, connecting with clients of varying types and degrees of trauma, and working with them to find a way forward.
The name itself, Lucas Insight, was named after her oldest son. The name Lucas has Latin origins and means “bringer of light.” Through a decade of varied therapy experiences, Jennifer’s main objective when working with clients has been to assist them in identifying new insights about themselves, both past and present, and to understand the mechanisms behind their behaviors. With insight, there can be change. Jennifer aspires to be a source of light and insight to each individual client while supporting their treatment needs.
Jennifer is a 2013 graduate of Western Michigan University’s graduate program. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Education and Counseling Psychology. She previously received a Bachelor of Arts from Grand Valley State University. She enjoys continued education and constantly learning new therapy insights, treatment modalities, and tools to share with clients. She works under the supervision of a PsyD therapist with 40 plus years of experience.
Jennifer is a Michigan native and married mother of three children, including twins. She has an affinity for animals and volunteers with therapy horses. Her personal life history served as the impetus for a career in counseling, beginning with the suicide of her father when she was 17-years-old. She has been a dedicated supporter and volunteer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for over a decade. Additionally, she has great empathy for those who have experienced pregnancy loss and miscarriage or secondary infertility, and those on the spectrum of neurodivergence.
For the past decade, Jennifer has worked as a therapist and group facilitator as a sub-contractor with the Michigan Department of Corrections providing risk assessment, individual therapy, and facilitating group therapies with a specific population in numerous counties under her primary employer. This population has consisted of those charged and/or convicted of sexually abusive crimes and/or domestically violent crimes, resulting in incarceration both short and long-term. She has done pre-trial assessment services with clients involved with both state and federal courts for both the defense and prosecution. She enjoyed a brief contract working in a local prison to curb some of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on inmate release dates by assisting in rapid assessment of MSAPP clients. Jennifer continues to work in the capacity of Sexual Abuse Prevention and Treatment Specialist, and is also a supporter of the families, friends, and spouses of those whom have been involved with the justice system, regularly providing support person (chaperone) trainings to assist family members in reuniting with their loved ones in the community.
Jennifer has also worked for several years in the in-patient facility setting for psychiatric care at two major psychiatric facilities in Grand Rapids, MI, working with children, teens, adults, and the elderly experiencing significant acute or chronic mental health issues. These employment opportunities have created a rich and diverse level of experience and empathy, which contribute to Jennifer’s ability and willingness to work with virtually any clientele. Jennifer has specific expertise working with men who have varied sexual behavior concerns, issues relating to involvement with the justice system, severe mental health, trauma, substance abuse, etc. She is also an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, and a practitioner of the holistic health approach to therapy to expand the mind-body connection in mental health.
